    Admission in Kindergarten

I am a first time mother having a 11 months baby..
Applying in Kindergartens in HK is a crazy thing for parents as it is highly in demand.. We don't speak Cantonese but I am eager to put my daughter to a local kindy to help her learn Cantonese.. which are the best kindies here...
How soon should I start applying for the kindergartens as she's turning 1 year next month..
Thanks alot n all the suggestions are welcomed..

Hi Jomama, my baby has turned 1 yesterday.. i tried contacting some kindergartens and they said they have no reservation service.. but I wonder how local people reserve a seat for their child in the kindergartens they choose..? Because the application process is crazy here.. and I am afraid if I miss out the dates they give out the application forms or so...
Any suggestions or anything from your personal experience...

Hi Hemakshi, as I mentioned on the 2nd PM i sent you, local kindergartens application usually starts around 1 year before the date of entry (therefore around Sept-Oct), and the exact date for each kindie may differ, so you need to pay attention to the announcements of the target schools (the well established ones usually have it on their website, the smaller ones may have paper flyers, or just call the school to find out). Once you have applied for the school, they will then arrange for an interview for the child, usually happening in November.

Local kindies do not have 'reservation service'; you apply when everyone applies, which as i mentioned, happens around Sept-Oct. Only certain international schools have 'reservation service', such as GSIS/DBIS/Kellet, where application is accepted from birth.

The PM i sent to Hemakshi is Local school / language specific. From your post i suppose you are going for International? In that case beside the 3 i mentioned, also submit your application to YCIS & Harrow, since they do accept application from birth as well. CDNIS has only a cut off (the end of Oct the year before entry), but you can apply early, although they do not look at the application date in determining offers. AISHK accept offers 2 years prior to entry, at the beginning of the year unlike others due to the Auz calendar, and most others accept application a year before entry.

Other parents please help as i am sure i have missed a few

I didn't apply until my son was 3. No problem. It might be more of a problem now though because of all the Shenzhen parents who come to Sheung Shui...
