Both CDNIS and CIS is an excellent schools. CIS is the ONLY school in HK teaches the blingual program successfully. However, I want my son to be English as the mother tongue and be able to speak and write Chinese. Hence, the CDNIS is our top choice. Both school teaches IB program. Though you will find CIS is not for everyone as majority is from very LOCAL family and 95% is Chinese ethinic. CDNIS has an excellent well balanced program with diversity in nationality. The debenture for CIS is already rose to 3 million HKD and 600,000 for the CDNIS this year. If money is no issue to you, then both schools is great. HKIS is also a very good school. I would not consider any other schools beside HKIS/CIS/CDNIS.

ESF is totally out- the funding and administration issues the school had to hire cheap models teachers. If you ask which subject that ESF student HATE most they will honetly tell you is "Mandarin" because no one bother to speak even majarity of ESF students are local. Not a good sign....

I am also looking for a school for my child and have to apply this year as well. Can someone tell me what the differences are between CNDIS, CIS and AISHK? As I read above, CIS have more Chinese origin children. But what I would like to know is which curriculum would be better for a child if after a few years we might move to Shanghai or other parts of the world. Is the curriculum of CNDIS comparable to the British curriculum, American or IB? And between IB and British? Which one is favoured more by universities?

Does CDNIS have a good Chinese / Mandarin program? How many times per week? Is it mandatory?

They have a Chinese lessons everyday all through the primary and middle school. At Grade 9 (Form 4, Year 10) they choose either French or Chinese. After that they are allowed to drop a second language if they want.

The school is introducing IB for its high school and so this will change in the next couple of years as the IB programme expects a second language to be studied through to Grade 12 (Form 7, Year 13).

Both CDNIS and CIS has adopted the IB program, depends which university you want to send your kids into. Obviously, IB program favor US/North American Uni. GCSE/British Curriculum favor UK university. There are defintely a lot more choices and popular Uni in the US than UK. That explains why IB program is the most popular and international reckon system thats what ESF is also considering to switch to IB pending the government approval.

CDNIS has 30% Mandarin and One hour sessions every day. The rest of the subjects are taught in ENGLISH. CDNIS offers more well round program and in case an expat move to other country, you can easily switch to ANY schools in US/North American/Canada.

CIS is a great school and fully bilingual, high level of Mandarin. However, I found this school very local, very chinese oriented. 95% of the students are Chinese euthinc or Asian nationality. You can see from the graduate classes. I dont think you can find any schools in ANY other country like UK/US/Canada for the same curriculm/bilingual -mandarin and english program schools. To be honest, I dont want my son to turn into a MAINLAND chinese neither. Its the language we want our kids to learn, not the habbit/culture we want to adopt. In case if you leave HK, where can you find the same bilingual program not even in Singapore. No problem in Shanghai and Beijing but not the rest of the world lol.

Forget about AIS, its not IB program.

    Canadian IS or Chinese IS?

    Dear CSY,

I noticed that it has been a couple of years since you posted this, and was just curious to find out which school you eventually enrolled your son into.

We have a 3-year-old daughter and are seriously considering CIS.

If your boy ended up there, would be interested to find out what you think.

Australian Intl Sch is located in Kowloon side. It really depends when you reside. If you live in the kowloon area, I would rather choose to the American Intl Sch vs Australian Int Sch just because of its reputation and academic results etc. In case one day you consider to live in the HK Island, then your kids can easily switch into the American/Northern American curriculum schools like HKIS/CIS/CDNIS.

Of course, the HKIS has the best reputation and AIS is nothing like HKIS in terms of its facility and academic results. But if I do have to choose Australian Intl Sch I rather look into Yew Chung Intl sch or the American Intl sch

Minababy, can you send me an email ([email protected])why you would not choose for Australian INt School? Is it because it's academic year starts in January? Because as far as I know, American Int School does not follow the IB and Yew Chung is a school where most of the Chinese elite go ... I did not even consider them. I thought Australian had quite good academic results .. or not? As my girl is used to foreign people (we live in Europe now before moving to HK this year) I would like her to go to a school which has something like 50-50 chinese and foreign children.
