    Greenfield Kindergarten - Long Beach

    Hi,

Does anyone have any views on Greenfield Kindergarten (Long Beach). It has only recently opened and our daughter has been accepted for the PN class for next year. It is very much within walking distance of where we live, which is a big positive, but I haven't been able to find out whether or not it is really a decent school. Any comments on Greenfield (they have 2 other campuses) would be much appreciated.

    Hello mungee,

Did you send your daughter to Greenfield? How has it been so far? I am also very interested in the pre-school myself.

    Thanks.

Greenfield in The Long Beach only opened in September of '11, so I don't know if Mungee had his/her child attend.

My son is K1. It's been very good. They're very professional, sometimes to the point of being worrisome for an old hippie like myself, but he loves it. HK education has been an experience. I thought he'd eat some paste, jump up and down, scrape his knees, eat some more paste, and that would be it. K1 is for three year olds, after all.

But they have him doing letters and learning putonghua, and he's loving it. They know their stuff - all the staff seem to have degrees in Early Childhood Education rather than just the B.A. with a major which is common in the States. When first listening to them, I wanted to run screaming out of the building with my boy - just so many rules. But taken individually, each rule/requirement makes a lot of sense.

I really wanted him to go for the social skills - he's an only child. He's gained that and the letters and alphabet and such are just a bonus.

So? It depends on what you're looking for. A decent experience with some foundation for the future? It's good. If you're looking to have your child write his doctoral dissertation at four? Maybe not.

We will send our son to greenfield too for PN. We applied for both Victoria and Learning Habitat around the area but he did not get in. To our surprise, Victoria did the interview in Cantonese and he simply did not understand the instructions; he did pretty well at LH interview and performed all the tasks correctly, but we don't know why he still did not get in. We participated in greenfield's playgroup before and I think it is ok; they did music, dance, and art, with some outdoor play time. just a bit expensive. The school is brand new and very clean; they have 2 or 3 teachers in each playgroup, so each kid gets a fair amount of attention from the teachers, which is good. I hope our son will like their PN as well.

dear all, we are new parents here and also considering Victoria, LH, and Greenfield for PN schools. it's scary to hear baby need to go INTERVIEW and can fail interview could you share some tips about application? and how would you rank the three schools? we hope our kids can learn Putonghua and English.
btw, we heard it might be easier to get into good elementary schools if you get in their kids classes. have you ever considered this factor and send the baby to PN located far away?
