    Paying school fees

I'm just wondering if we still need to pay school fees for July, seeing that there won't be classes?

Yes - teachers still need to be paid, and school sites still need cleaning/maintenance etc etc.

Just like when you go on holiday you still need to pay your helper.

Just like when you do go on holiday and your employer pays you.

I understand that for private/fee paying schools it is frustrating to for over lots of $$ and have 'nothing' - but in this day and age, schools could easily provide e-learning/work packets for children. If they don't do so, then that is the problem - not the closure/fees, per se.

Whats even more frustrating is that once you graduate from highschool (i.e. Year 13), the school still makes us pay the 1 month school fees (June) even though we've ended school and finished our exams!

Basically, we're paying school fees for nothing!

Nothing personal, but I find the below reasoning ridiculous.

    1) students are in fact consumers too. We pay the school for the service
they are offering (which is receiving knowledge in all sorts). If there is no service offered, students should not be entitled to pay anything.

    2) Regarding the operation expenses of schools, that's the risk of business of all sorts. Students are paying the school fees for the knowledge they are entitled to receive from schools, they are not responsible for the operation expenses.

    3) Regardind the going on holiday example mentioned below, it is totally a wrong comparison. It is not apple to apple. When I go on holidays, it is solely out of my own will. I am ready to pay for the helper when I go on holidays. But for the swine flu case, it is totally out of our own will. The government interfered in the normal operation. So as consumers, we should not be paying the school fee for July (besides, already extra cost for parents to seek help to take care of the kids). the government should provide subsidy to the schools.

    4) some may say that the school fee is in fact on annual basis, schools allow parents to pay monthly just to lessen parents' burden. I understand this. However, when we agree on the annual school fee, we are expected the school year to cover July as well. Should we knew the school year is such a short one, that will be another issue.

    thanks.

sorry, need to make it clear.

    3) what i meant was going on holiday while paying for the helper is my own choice. yet, the closure due to the swine flu is not.
