TUTOR TIME WOW - KOWLOON TONG
We have been with this centre for the last two years and found it fantastic.
We started with the playgroup 3 days a week when my daughter was 1.5 yr old and shifted to nursery when she turned 3. Initially we found the school extremely expensive (all the other playgroups charged the fees per class, but here it was per month, so sometimes in dec or feb paying 3.5K for 5-6 classes seemed just too much). But gradually as we started to know the school and the systems, we found it was worth the money we were spending.
The class was for 1.5hr, half an hout english and half an mandarin, with 15 min in between for snacks and playtime. There was always a class teacher joined by a language teacher. The teachers were extremely considerate and very friendly to talk to. In fact when we started, my daughter would never sit at one place and see what the teacher was doing, always running around and distarcted by toys in the class, but instead of telling me to control the child, i found that the class teacher would very gently bring her back and make her sit with herself. Both the english and mandarin teachers were very experienced and knew how to keep the children interested in what they were doing. Activities or artworks they made in the class room we also very educational and fun for the kids to do and were designed according to the age of the kids. As we peak english at home, it was never a priority for us to learn at school, but thanks to her mandarin teacher, very soon she started to pick up mandarin and now sometimes we find her singing mandarin songs while she is playing.
After about 1.5 yr in playgroup, we moved on to nursery in the same campus. And it was a wonderful experience for her. She was so happy there that after one w eek, shw would cry every sat and sun morning that she wanted to go to school and that she is missing her teachers. The nursery program is also designed the smae way - half english and half mandarin. The teachers again were fantastic and they were so closely involved with every child that sometimes i found that what they told me about my daughter, actually i never knew that. Every morning they would listen to all the stories that she had to tell them. The parents can talk to them anyday when you go to drop off or pick up ar call them up. They never ever told me that i need to take an appointment prioir to meeting them. They send a weekly report about what was done in the class and a monthly report with class photos so that parents were kept involved. Sometimes they would invite parents to come for story reading or some talk in the class. In the six months that my daughter was there in nursery, she learned a lot and i saw a major positive change in her attitude and she was more patient while playing with other children. At the end of the term, they made a very nice book/portfolio with the atworks and photos of the child, and i really had tears in my eyes when i went through the portfolio. A lot of hardwork put in by the teachers to show the parents the very best of their children. They also gave a CD with all the songs that they learnt in the class, recorded by the teachers themselves. It was a wonderful present for the kids, and will always make them remember their teachers.
In terms of facilties, i think the campus is quite spacious and designed like a paradise for kids. They have a big outdoor play area and a small pond with a few fish and turtles, which were every child's favourite. There are washrooms between two clasrooms and an aunty to clean up/ help the kids is always there. They are taught to wash hands very frequently, like when they reach school, after playing, before snack etc. The nursery kids have to change shoes before they enter the class and after a week my daughter was able to change her shoes/socks on her own.
They have a big gym play area which is quite a lot of fun with trampolines etc, a soft playroom and a village room with market stalls, kitchen library scenes etc. Overall the campus is one of the best in HK.
I would highly recommend this school and i can still keep on writing a lot about our experience there, but, to conclude i would say that we are happy to be a part the school for the last two years, and would definitely go back there if we have a second baby. I am glad that we were able to give our daughter a positive start to school life and she as she starts K1 now in ESF, we hope she enjoys and loves her school as much as she did in Tutor time.
