Time to ease off, tiger mamas?

Music lessons, football training, extra English classes… We all want the best for our children but sometimes we forget that kids are just… kids. Studies have shown that too much pressure can actually alienate children from their parents so tiger mums out there, is it time to bring the ‘fun’ factor back into our kiddies life?

I second this article. Being very new to Hongkong, one thing that has struck me is seeing school kids returning home late in the evening still in their uniforms - after the endless swimming/tennis/calligraphy/english/maths classes. I feel very sorry as I had a far more relaxed childhood and in my opinion turned out pretty good in life.

We should stop using the term "Tiger Mom". Dr Chua was just trying to sell her book, and like most annoying A-Type's, she's found that by being controversial and extremely opinionated that it helps her sell books. I mean, before Tiger Mom, who had ever heard of her? I sure hadn't.
