    phonics class???

My kid is almost 5 years old, I have never heard of any phonics class in the states. Somehow every kid I know in H.K. is enrolled in some kind of phonics class; letterland, jolly phonics, RWI.. Do you find it helpful for your kids who is a native English speaker to enroll in such program? Pls. share your opinion. Thanks.

We never enrolled in a class. They use Jolly Phonics in ESF and introduce it to the kids in P1

Have you heard from any schools yet? Heard some kids are being called for P1 interviews.

Haven't heard from ESF yet, every time I called, they said we are within the top 15 on the waiting list. KCIS offered us a K2 spot instead of P1 because my kid was too shy and wouldn't talk much during the P1 interview.

    Yes!

No matter what country, trust me get your kid learning phonics. Letterland is excellent.

Depends on your child. We never bothered with (or were taught) 'phonics'
Some children don't need it, to learn to read.

Sounds like just another HK business to me

Learning to read with Mummy (if you want her help) is much more fun
