Lightbulb Yew Chung (YCIS) or French Int'l (FIS) Int'l Stream

Any thoughts on the two schools? We weigh our pros and cons and still in a deadlock. We understand that comparing these two schools is comparing apple and orange, but since our child currently studies at YCIS (3 year old class) and got accepted at FIS Int'l Stream (Reception), it is something to consider (we are a French-Hong Kong family). We are currently only considering these two schools.
We want our child to be fluent in English & Mandarin, while hold basic communicative level in French. Not taking into account costs difference and locations, here's part of the list:

    YCIS
    - Bilingual teaching (with emphasis in Mandarin in the primary years)
    - Through-train school
    - Students take both IGCSE & the IB in high school
    - Recent average IB exam score is 35 (year 12)
    - There is no ranking in the school, to avoid the competitive mentality. Are the parent-teacher meetings sufficient to motivate and help kids achieve desirable results in public exams?

    FIS
    - English teaching with French and very little Mandarin
    - Through-train school
    - Students take both IGCSE & the IB in high school
    - Recent average IB exam score is 35 (year 12)
    - Kids receive minimum Mandarin exposure. Here in HK, can they still achieve a level of fluency in Mandarin (Read and understand the news, write comments about a news topic, for example) via outside, supplementary Mandarin classes, both from FIS (Extracurricular classes) and outside help?

I have heard good and not so positive comments about both schools, but they are never compared on the same page. Any constructive thoughts and experience sharing are welcome. Thank you!

Hi! May I know which school you have chosen for your child?
We applied for YCIS too, for 4 years old, and got an interview invitation at the end of month. For FIS we have a Corporate debenture, no interview scheduled yet.

    Hi Emily,

We have decided to go with FIS, mainly because we can transfer to other French schools if we relocate. May I know which year will your child be attending FIS?

My son is still in Yew Chung, and we are still loving the school, the teachers and the way they teach.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Kenzie,

    Thanks for your reply!

If my son gets in to FIS it will be 2016/17 reception year, International stream. Interview should be taken place in January/February 2016.

We received an interview invitation from YCIS for the next school year ("four programme"). How was your child's interview?

    Emily

    Hi Emily,

She enjoyed it, it was a group interview and the teachers made sure all the children are comfortable in leaving their parents to enter the room together. I was not able to get much information about the interview content, but she told me she played and the teachers came to talk to her, different teachers came at different times throughout the interview (it's about 2 hours). French is not tested, unlike the Bilingual stream at FIS.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Kenzie,

May I know which year will your child be attending FIS? Do you know if the Reception class is half-day or full-day?

    Thank you!

My older one is already in FIS reception. It's three full days, 2 half days for reception and primary. It's complicated, ha ha ha. If you want, you can send me more questions via email and we can take this offline. :-)

Let me figure out if there is a personal message thing here...
