    Worried about large schools....

My husband has been offered a job in HK and I'm all for the move but I've got three kids (12, 10, and 6) who currently attend a small school (less than 150 kids) and, after just a quick look, it seems that the international schools in HK are much bigger! I love the environment of a small school with small class size. The kids all know each other and the parent community is tight knit. I know this is probably way too much to ask in HK but does such a school exist?

Yes, is the short answer! Our son goes to The Harbour School in Kennedy Town in Grade 6 (he's 12 year's old) and is very happy there. We did a lot of research before moving him to THS and didn't find any other schools with such small class sizes. Each class has about 13-15 students and 2 teachers so the student to teacher ratio is very low. The school has a PTA set up so plenty of opportunity to get involved as well. Our son has thrived at the school and I recommend it highly! A unique school in HK. See the link for more information: The Harbour School Hong Kong and feel free to contact me if you want further information. Good luck!

The problem is that school spaces are scarce in Hong Kong, and eventhough the perfect school exists there is no guarantee they can accommodate you. It's recommended you apply to at least 3-4 schools.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I got the impression that school places are a bit of an issue in HK but I'm very happy to hear there is a school that seems to fit our wish list. Looks like I need to get on to it :-)

My kids also go to The Harbour School and absolutely love it! It is a really warm, caring school, and they have both really thrived there. We came from a tiny village school in the UK and were really pleased to find somewhere in HK that had such small class sizes. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Thanks for your feedback, DeepBlue. It sounds like you came from a similar situation as ours, school wise. Hoping hubby can visit the Harbour School when he's there next month.
