does anyone know what the interviews are like for Reception class at CIS?
hi, i too am interested in applying to CIS and am wondering how your interview went. i heard it is nearly impossible to get in with all the wait lists, etc. Is it really so hard to get in? It is hard to tell from where I am (Washington DC), as we plan to come to HK later in 2006. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
My son got in CIS but we declined and choose HKIS instead.
CIS is a v good school. Impossible to get in but if you have Corp. debenture will give you a higher chances but no guaranteed.
Hi, my 5 yr old son had an interview with CIS early this year and was successfully accepted by them. The interview was taken place with 2 teachers, one female and one male. Each teachers interviewed him for 30 mins or so. My son told me the questions they asked were very simple like name the colors, shapes, etc. My son was also being asked to write his name, some alphabets and numbers during the interview too.
CIS has made debenture mandatory for all students, and most of the money will have to go to the construction costs for the new campus which is located at Shek Mun. Therefore tCIS is now willing to open and accept more new students so long as they are willing to pay the debenture and are qualified in the interview.
hi lwongml, do you mean CIS will be relocating to Shek Mun or they will have one more campus in HK? Have you had any special training to your son to get prepare for the interview like many local moms do? Does you son get many extra-curricullum activities which are most liked by local schools?
Hi u-love-this. CIS is building a new campus at Shek Mun. It will be ready in Oct timeframe this year. CIS will move all primary and secondary students from their existing campus to this new campus.
As my son is fairly shy and he doesn't like speaking to people whom he doens't know of, so I decided to put him in alot of after school "group" activities such as ice-skating, communication skills & speach and drama from the Kids' Gallary, the Little Gym and the Saturday English Class at the ESF Beacon Hill School.
The result was very promising. My son was not only being accepted by CIS, but was admitted to AISHK and the Renaissance College, one of ESF's Private Indpendent Schools.
So I guess it is a rather big "joint" effort from both the parents and the child to make this a success.
Hi lwongml, I have 2 children at CIS (Chinese Int'l School) and I know that there are no plans for the school to open up in Shek Mun. Are your children going to ICS (International Christian School)?
Kelly and jchen: the interviews are quite fun and easy for the kids. There are 4 teachers who watch about 4-5 kids. 1 chinese and 1 English teacher play and interact with the kids while the other 2 teachers observe and write a report. From what my children have told me, they play in the centers, draw pics, and generally play with whatever toys they are interested in. At the end, the children go outside of the classroom to do some simple exercises like jumping, skipping, tossing beanbags in a hoop, balancing on a low beam etc. It usually takes about a 45 mins. We do not have debenture so not necessary in order to get in. They are just looking for talkative, mature and social children. They do like the older kids. Hope this helps.
Sorry Moms....you're write... what I meant was ICS (International Christian School). Sorry for the confusion.
