Hello there
I've read about Harrow Intl School (it's a UK school) opening a branch in Hong Kong. Does anyone know of the rep of this school. Would like to find out more.
Harrow in the UK remains one of the two most prestigious schools for boys.
More than the education, I think the prestige comes from the connections and the relationships the boys develop while they're there. More third world dictators have gone through Harrow and Eton in the UK compared to any other school in my opinion ( and I'm sure they have a most impressive portfolio of politicians, CEOs, civil servants etc).
Not sure how the prestige or the educational standards carry over into their franchises in Asia. Does it dilute the brand? Will China and HK's next set of civil servants, CEOs and whatnots be of Harrow Hong Kong pedigree? I don't think so?
Will it be the equivalent of the BNO passport? Sounds good on paper... "Harrow Educated" but everyone knows it probably does not mean anything back in the UK.
As it hasn't opened we can't comment on the quality of the teaching staff, the facilities, etc. What is known is that there is a waiting list already and it will be a partial boarding school.
i've just been to the website Harrow International School to Open in Hong Kong in August 2012
and i think we can also say that the proposed building is hideous looking!

Hard to say anything about the rep of this school as it hasn't opened yet.
What we do know is that:
1) it will be a partial boarding school
2) it has a waiting list
3) the proposed building bears no resemblance to buildings that Harrow and Eton would ever consider having on their property!
Did you see the article in the HK Standard on school fees:
The Tuen Mun branch of the posh British school, which has produced world leaders and poets, will charge fees ranging from HK$106,600 to HK$145,000 a year - and parents will have to pick one of three expensive packages to help pay for the project.
The options include buying a HK$3 million individual capital certificate, which can be transferred among parents, and buying individual debentures worth HK$600,000.
Both are non-interest bearing and can be refunded if the child fails to win admission.
The debentures, but not the certificates, are also refundable six years after the pupil starts school.
A third option is to pay an annual capital levy of HK$50,000 - for up to 13 years.
In comparison, the Hong Kong International School at Repulse Bay has annual fees of up to HK$195,500 in Grade 12.
Harrow School in London - motto Stet Fortuna Domus or "Let the Fortune of the House Stand" - has fees of nearly 30,000 (HK$381,600) a year.
