Transferring to ESF School during Secondary (Current Year 10) for 2015 Academic year

    HI everyone,
I currently attend a "local style" private school in Sham Shui Po despite speaking little to no Cantonese, I've always had problems adapting and socializing due to the language and culture barrier. I am currently doing my second year of IGCSE and hope to be able to transfer to RCHK college in the ESF stream to fit in better and improve my English.

    I have questions regarding:
    -Dates of application
-How to prepare for interviews and tests
    -What is expected of me?
-Whether I will receive priority if elder sibling attended ESF school for one year
-How much will grades and behavior affect chances of getting in?
(Predicted A's for English 1st Lang, English Literature, Hist, Geog, and B's for Science, DT and Math, and absolutely dismal results for Chinese. )

    Hi Lilay!

We got the following reply from Anne Murphy at ITS

    - Renaissance College offers the International Baccalaureate MYP Programme. This programme is designed for students aged 11 to 16 years. The deadline for submission of your application is January 2014.
    - The entrance test can be quite challenging, so you will need to prepare. You will be tested in Maths and English and will most probably have an interview with Principal or Vice Principal. You will need to demonstrate fluency in English in order to study in an English-medium school. The tests will involve Math areas you are covering under IGCSE and the English test will be based on poetry/literature, essay and reading comprehension.
    - Your grades will need to be either A or B for English and Maths. It would be a good idea to get a reference letter from your current Principal or a Head Teacher. If you have shining reports, you are one step ahead.
    - The ESF School in your catchment area will also accept an application now. Similar entrance procedures as RCHK.

Thanks! I would also like to know whether I can apply to RCHK now if it's within my catchment area and if there is a limit to the number of schools I can apply to.

There isn't a limit to the number of schools you can apply to.
