homework time in ESF/international schools comparing to US public schools

My girl goes to public shcool in New Jersey. She is in 3rd grade right now. It usually takes her about 20 minutes to finish homework. Plus there is no homework on Friday. I'd like to find out in ESF or International schools, how much homework do students in 3rd grade have, on average how long does it take to finish them. BTW, is Y3 equivalent to US 3rd grade in ESF schools? Thank you for any input!

Any comments? I'd like to find out as much as I can about the kid's schooling before we move to HK next year. Thanks.

    Hi,

We just moved from the US last summer and my kids now attend ESF schools. The year groupings here are based on the year kids were born. This year, kids born in 2001 are in year 3, 2000 in year 4. There are exceptions though if it doesn't seem to be a good fit or if you have a good reason.

As far as homework goes, it seems to be about the same amount as we had in the states, if not a bit less. My year 5 daughter spends 1-2 hours a week on homework, but she's a slow kind of kid and it takes her time to get focused. My year 2 daughter half that or less.

So far we've been really happy with our ESF schools.

    Best of luck,

    Christine

Our son is in Y2 at ESF. He gets homework 1x a week and he has 5 days to get it done. We normally sit down together on a Sat morning and it usually takes us no more than 30 mins to complete it. He also brings home a home reader which he can exchange as often as he wants. He reads it at bedtime and it takes around 10-15mins.

sounds about the same. there are occasional projects to do at home as well in year three, but the nightly homework isn't excessive, according to my friend who has a y3 child.
