    Wait List for Peak School

My daughter is currently 4 on the waitlist for Peak School. Does anyone have any experience regarding how many places tend to come up over the summer months?

4 should be fine. We were 10 on a popular international school list and got the call June 1st last year. Many banker contracts expire in June so this month we should see quite a bit of movement on wait lists.

Thanks very much for your help. We just turned down a place at HKIS because we really want her to be at the Peak, which is much closer to home. ESFMum, she is on the list for Year 1 starting this August.

    OliviaMG,

May I ask whether your category 1 or 2 for ESF application purposes? I am trying to determine how competitive the Peak school is. Any insight you can give me would be very helpful.

I hear great things about the Peak school so good luck. FYI, my friend is wait listed for Glenealy P1 and she moved up 4 places in two months.

2-form at Glenealy and Peak, 4-form at Bradbury / QBS and 5-form at Kennedy.

4th on the list should be OK. However, don't forget the late Corporate Surety Scheme spots (usually August), and children in other year levels who may have siblings in Y1. As soon as the older one gets a spot (which is easier), the sibling gets priority and you move down the list, instead of up.

I have just learned that if your child is classed as a "child without a school" then they hold their place in August against siblings/overseas students/transfers. Because of this we have turned down other schools so my daughter will hold her place as number 4 past August.

I don't think that's 100% correct as those overseas children are mostly the ones without a school. I know several people who have been on ESF waiting lists for more than 18 months (moving up, but also down the list), already in HK, but not finding the place (they want). How you qualify 'child without a school' is very subjective as in most cases it means they cannot get the school they want in the place they want. Not that there are no spots. You even turned down spots (not everybody is even in that position). Some children will have parents who start teaching in the ESF system (their children will get a spot quite easily), others are siblings (your child does not have sibling priority). Also, I've already heard of a lot of transfers within the ESF system and quite a few spots of those have been confirmed already as well.

Again, I think you'll be fine being number 4, but I don't think what you're saying is 100% correct.

Just wondering what you will do if your place does not come up by August since you turned down HKIS? Your daughter will need to keep up with the P1 curriculum. I know someone who was 7th on the wait list for P1 at an ESF school and was just interviewed for the coming school year to start P2. The child was tested on reading, writing and maths. You might need to make some back up plans because even the more popular 5-6 year old programs at pre- schools fill up.
