Year 2 interview at Discovery college or KJS

    HI All,

We had applied to both these schools last year for year 1 but were put on waiting list. Not that they have asked us for an interview, but I want to start preparing my kid incase something does come up.

Please can anyone tell me whats an interview/assessment like for Year2 at ESF, esxpecially DC/KJS

they told me over phone it will be a one-on-one interview with the teacher and there will be some reading, writing, number recognition etc

please can you tell me in detail about this. what level of reading is expected. My kid reads simple words 3-4 letters but gets confused with longer ones sometimes. knows couting upto 50 and can write too. Please let me know what shall I focus on for this.

    thanks a lot!

It's pretty much the same at all schools. ESF accepts a fair range of abilities. Obviously they will start learning to read and write in Year 1, so most children have a solid basis by Year 2. By the end of Year 1 most children will be able to read short books, be able to recognize about 200 high frequency words, sounding out and spelling other words. They'll be able to write a few sentences / very short story. In terms of numbers, they'll start doing their basic number facts / bonds up to 10, sorting / tallying, number sequencing, skip counting. A lot of children who join in Y2 because of wait list issues are usually a little bit behind but I think they mostly look at their general ability and the ability to catch up. Again, they come in all sorts ...
